What is Sychronicity?

A joke is told of a non-observant Jewish man looking for a parking spot in Manhattan.

God, he prays, if You give me a parking spot, I’ll start keeping Shabbat.

Suddenly he sees one.

Nevermind! He says quickly, I found one!

Carl Jung coined the term Synchronicity to refer to when the inner world and the outer world meaningfully converge.

A patient was telling him about a scarab beetle that appeared in a dream and then there was a scarab (unusual for that part of the world) tapping on the window.

Prayers that are answered is another example.

Any coincidence can be.

One possible implication is that there is an underlying unity between the physical world and the mental one, irrespective of time and space.

You can dream about an event happening in another part of the world.

This happens often when people get a premonition about a family member.

More uncommonly, you might dream about an event that has yet to happen.

This is one explanation for deja vu.

Dreams respond to symbolic interpretation.

It turns out events in waking life do as well.

One of the most empowering practices is to be able to interpret the events of your life as if they were a dream.

This is one of the fruits of our work together.
