Being Polite in Group Therapy

Is not a good idea.

The great opportunity of group therapy is that you can experiment with different ways of being than in your regular life. The only consequences are how people will think and feel towards you in the group, and we’re here to study that.

No one will break up with you.

No one will fire you.

Your kids won’t stop speaking to you.

Yes, you might hurt someone’s feelings.

They might think, O, that guy is a real jerk!

Possibly they’ll be so offended that they will leave group.

But probably not.

They’re here to learn and grow as well.

Guaranteed other people in their life are thinking and feeling the same thing that you said, they’re just not telling them.

How valuable to get it out in the open!

Now they can discuss it. Learn more about it.

Try something different.
