One of our greatest human desires is to be heard, seen, and understood.
Yet most of us don’t receive as much of this genuine connection as we need. Because we don’t know how to create and sustain the intimacy that would nourish us, we seek substitutes in addiction, anxiety, perfectionism, over-working, junk food, thrill-seeking, saccharine spirituality, dissociation, compulsive behavior, video games, imbalanced sexuality, toxic relationships, and so on.
To See and Be Known is an invitation to put down the substitutes and begin building real connection.
How do we do that?
We start with slowing down and settling into our experience, a kind of meditation that helps us see ourselves, what we’re feeling, the sensations in our bodies, the thoughts and images in our minds. Then we make eye contact with each other and notice how that changes our experience. We share what we notice. As we share, we discover our resistances to intimacy and have the opportunity to work through them.
This workshop draws from the interpersonal meditation of Circling as well as the techniques and theory of group psychotherapy.
